Jose M. Gomez Gavilan graduated in Madrid (Spain) in 2008. He moved to Belfast over 10 years ago and since then he has been providing NHS and private treatment. In 2021, he completed his masters in Endodontics (Chester University).
He is currently offering general dental services and endodontic referrals at The Portland Practice since 1st November 2023.
Outside surgery he likes to go to the gym and play badminton.
Fiona McLean (GDC no 73586) qualified from Manchester University in 1997. After working for five years in the Greater Manchester area, Fiona returned home to Northern Ireland where she worked in Bangor and Larne before joining The Portland Practice in Glengormley. Fiona enjoys dentistry very much, especially cosmetic work. She prides herself in being able to put patients at ease for dental treatment. A mother of three girls, she realises the value of treating children and enjoys working with children and nervous patients. Her main aim is to deliver quality, compassionate care to those in her chair while staying abreast of the most up to date approaches to dental treatment and techniques.

The Portland Practice, formerly Charlton and McMeekin dental surgery, was established in 1996 by Dr Bryan Turner and in the twenty odd years since, the practice has been renovated and modernised with the times, boasting two state of the art treatment rooms and a fully equipped and operational decontamination room for your health and safety.

It is our sincere pledge to give you a warm welcome when you visit and to put your needs and comfort first.
Our dentists, Dr Jose Gomez Gavilan and Dr Fiona McLean, shall chat to you at your initial consultation to find out exactly what it is that you want carried out. We will tailor any work to accommodate and respect these needs. It is absolutely imperative that both dentist and patient are on the same side, that both are aware of the necessity and reasons for the treatment and that all questions regarding the care are answered in detail. If you have any doubts about the treatment, please, please ask us to explain! We will go through all aspects of treatment in a jargon-free manner.
Where there is more than one option, we shall let you know precisely what is entailed and what the various prices are. The care we shall provide should be exactly the care that you wish to receive, and delivered in a safe, hygienic, painless and competent fashion. We offer a full range of dental treatments, with a special interest in cosmetic dentistry, and of course we use the very best of modern materials and equipment. Our work shall also be carried out at very reasonable fees, which we are quite confident will undercut quotes from other surgeries.
In all our years of operation we have never needed to advertise our services. We’ve always been very busy and have gained our new patients and referrals through word of mouth. (No pun intended!) Up until now we have been a well kept secret. In setting up this website, it is not our intention to expand and bring in new dentists. Our strength has always been keeping the practice personal, and we wish to continue in this successful manner. Our patients will not see new faces every time they attend. Our dedicated team - dentists, nurses and receptionists - have all been with us many years and keep up to date with new developments in dentistry through lectures, seminars and regular meetings while maintaining the relaxed atmosphere our surgery is renowned for.
